Shaun’s story

“I’m a very determined person. I want respect and I wanted a career.”

“Before I joined KeyRing Living Support Networks, I worked in a hotel, then at Curry’s. I wanted to do something more but I couldn’t walk out because I needed to pay my bills.

When I joined KeyRing, a support worker told me about a job opportunity at CHANGE. I’d never left my city before.

KeyRing helped me with travel training to practice going to another city. It was a bit scary but I got confident at it.

I also got help with the interview because I asked to send a video CV. I also made them aware of my health. I still got the job. I still work for CHANGE and I train managers on Easy Read. People respect me because of my lived experience. My A-Level is my lived experience.

“If I didn’t work I wouldn’t be able to have holidays abroad, I wouldn’t have worked abroad, or bought myself the things I’ve saved up for.”
